Ngangao time

Today, we had a relaxed morning. We were woken up by Simba(Päivikki), our new pet rooster. We had more time than usual in the morning. At ten, we left to the market in the village. We bought mostly fruit, water and souvenirs.

At twelve o'clock, we left for Canon Kituri Secondary School. Unfortunately, there was a strike among teachers, so there weren't any teachers or students at the school. We did meet the principal and some other staff, however.

Afterwards, we headed for the Gangao mountain forest, which was quite the big forest. It had a lot of indigenous trees, and we learned a lot from professor Petri and the forest guide. We walked through the forest, stopped for a while to eat and gazed at the views at the same time.

Then we continued through the forest, saw the Mother Tree, which is a very old, tall, indigenous tree and looked at a weather station, which is supposed to measure among others humidity, wind strength and direction and temperature, and some of the water containers that measure water quality and amount in the forest. Unfortunately, the weather station had suffered some damage from vandalism. Some of the locals had tried to steal the valuable solar power panels, from which to weather station gets it's electricity from.

After leaving the forest, we started to head back to the research station. After arriving there, we had some lunch that tasted delicious after our productive day.
